How Frequently You Should Reach Out To New York Expired Listings

You’ve found your leads, now it’s time to shine and win that Brooklyn/Manhattan expired listing! Here’s a timeline for how often you can reach out to an expired listed homeowner and when to wait for their response. 


Initial Contact

Hit the ground running, but don’t overwhelm your prospective client. Start with a phone call to introduce yourself, and follow up with an email. If this is a referral from a friend or previous client who you had a great relationship with, feel free to go the less formal route of reaching out via social media. Wait at least 48 hours before attempting a second reach out. Within the first two weeks, do not try to contact the same client more than three times. Emailing / calling / communicating more than three times without any type of response will label you as “spam” in the client’s eyes. 

One Month Later

After three attempts, wait another week or even two before trying again. Offer information you have yet to give them. Did you pull up some stats on their home? Did you run more comps in their neighborhood? Now’s the time to dive into this information. This shows that although you have yet to have a conversation with the homeowner, you are still willing to put in the work to go above and beyond. 

Three Months Later

Still nothing from the potential client? Try to revisit the conversation through fresh eyes. Reintroduce yourself and note some of your accomplishments. Talk about the home and why you know you’ll be able to sell their New York expired listing. Reaching out with confidence and offering solutions are a great way to instill trust with a homeowner.

Final Attempt

If they haven’t responded to any attempts by four months after your initial contact, it’s time to say goodbye. Send one final email out to make sure they know you will withdraw from pursuing a professional relationship. Don’t let this bring you down, though. Keep up your efforts in reaching out to expired leads and you’ll be sure to win the next one.
